Pickle Your Film Fancy at JIFF 2022
Join Felix Shannon of Tuesday Drive as he talks to Eddie Tamir, the artistic director of the Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF).
Boasting a diverse program of 52 films, the Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF) returns to cinemas across Australia from October to November. Spread across nine venues in seven cities, this will be the biggest festival to date!
With a selection of festival hits, belly busting comedies, and acclaimed documentaries, be sure to check out the official program to decide which films to see over the coming month!
Opening the festival is James Gray’s (Ad Astra) newest film ARMAGEDDON TIME. Direct from the official competition at Cannes 2022, where it received a 7-minute standing ovation, the film stars Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong. A deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream, ARMAGEDDON TIME is sure to appeal to film lovers in the way that it elevates the smallest moments into the greatest drama.
“Armageddon Time is a damning moral drama that is in thoughtful dialogue with complex matters of race and class” – VANITY FAIR
Another program highlight is the directorial debut from actress and author Mayim Bialik AS THEY MADE US. Starring Dustin Hoffman, Candice Bergen, Dianna Agron, and Simon Helberg, this comedic drama offers an authentic and non-judgemental portrait of a dysfunctional Jewish family. THE ACCUSATION, on the other hand, is a ‘timely and thought-provoking story exploring the intersection of class, sex, truth, and consent.’ Premiering at Venice Film Festival, this French drama features an outstanding performance from Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia and The Passengers of the Night).
“As They Made Us is a very forgiving film about seemingly unforgivable pain, which is to say that it has been made with a lot of unconditional love” – THE WRAP
Held at the Ritz Randwick, the Sydney leg of the Jewish Film Festival will run from the 25th of October to the 28th of November. Tickets are on sale now, so don’t miss out on the best Jewish-themed and Israeli cinema of 2022 and beyond!
