Planting a tree for every poem through POEM FOREST
Created by Red Room Poetry in partnership with Wollongong City Council, POEM FOREST is a nature writing prize for young poets and accredited teachers.
The mission is simple – write a poem, and a tree is planted for it. It’s been running for three years now and this year’s shortlist of 84 young poets from across Australia has just been announced.
2SER Breakfast’s Danny Chifley was joined by Natalie Buehler of Red Room Poetry to discuss how POEM FOREST got started and some of the fantastic poems that they’ve received from across Australia. Evander, a Year 2 student from Ultimo Public School, also read out his poem “Beautiful Trees” which is on this year’s shortlist.
