Plebiscite on Marriage Equality

Marriage Equality: Australia is the last developed, English-speaking country in the world to not recognise the right of same sex couples to marry but our government doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to rectify it. A plebiscite scheduled for 2017 would supposedly give the Australian people a say, but in spite of this and in spite of a proposed $160 million dollar cost; a number of politicians such as Eric Abetz, Cory Bernardi and most recently Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie have come out to say that regardless of the result of the plebiscite they will refuse to vote to give same sex couples equal rights.

From the heart of Texas, We spoke to Lecturer Adam Webster from the Law School at University of Adelaide.
