Private school new plans for Aboriginal students with rural school

The latest ‘Closing The Gap’ report found that in remote areas, indigenous school attendance was at 66.4%, compared to 91.1% of non-indigenous children attendance. This has raised a few questions and has sparked the push for more local rural schools to be built.

One elite private school trying to address this is issue is Barker College, who this agreed to launch Aboriginal academy for girls in a rural community, just one of the many schools and programs that have been set up especially for indigenous students.
Dr Nina Burridge, a senior lecturer at UTS and expert in Indigenous education joined The Daily to share her thoughts and opinions on the matter.
