Protests Erupt In Jakarta After Joko Widodo’s Re-election

Just over a month ago more than 150 million people across Indonesia went to the ballot box to elect a president and, on Tuesday, the results were finally announced.  With 55.5% of the vote President Joko Widodo was re-elected to a second term, defeating challenger Prabowo Subianto. Despite this large margin opposition supporters have taken to the streets of Jakarta in protest with 6 dead, 200 injured and more than 250 arrested. Joining Victor Petrovic to analyse the results and to discuss the ensuing protests is Dr. Elisabeth Kramer, deputy director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre at the University of Sydney.
