Pushing athletes to extremes
If you have ever struggled to run on a hot day, imagine running up a mountain on a hot day.
That’s the new training regime for many athletes, as researchers are beginning to see the benefits of altitude, or hypoxic training combined with heat training.
Aaron Coutts is the Professor of Sport and Exercise Science in the Faculty of Health at the University of Technology Sydney. He has been putting athletes through their paces in extreme environments to improve their performance.
