Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs at the Australian Museum
Transport yourself back 3,300 years, across the sands of the Sahara Desert into the heart of Ancient Egypt when Pharaoh Ramses the Great ruled – the most celebrated Pharaoh in recorded history.
Exclusive to the Australian Museum, an all-new multisensory experience will take you into the life and accomplishments of Ramses II, also known as, Ramses the Great.
Mixing new technology with the old – like 3000 years old – the exhibition showcases 182 artefacts including the sarcophagus of Ramses II – one of the most impressive royal coffins from ancient Egypt ever to be discovered. Some treasures and relics have never left Egypt before, and you can find them at the Australian Museum from the 18th November till 19th May 2024.
Expect to see part of an original limestone colossus statue of Ramses II, golden masks and jewellery – like a sold gold collar, and animal mummies. The exhibition will also have a VR experiences with motion chairs so viewers can be physically taken into Egypt almost 3,300 years ago.
The Australian Museum’s Head of Exhibitions, Fran Dorey, joins Danny Chifley on 2SER Breakfast to talk about this exciting and educational exhibition!
