Regulating corporate giants

The Coalition promised to review Australia’s competition laws back in 2013, and now Treasurer Scott Morrison says the government will support 44 of the 56 recommendations of the recent Harper inquiry into current policy.

Some of the recommendations by Professor Ian Harper include opening up health, aged care, disability services and childcare to private sector competition, and even some long overdue recommendations about opening up the taxi industry to competition – well after companies like Uber disrupted the passenger transport market.

One thing small businesses were hoping for were changes to regulation of market power – reigning in big businesses abilities to dominate the landscape… so did they get what they want?
