Renewable Energy Update: Hot Batteries

This week Dr. Matt discussed with 2SER’s Jack Gembitsky about Heat Batteries, a new technology being developed by Californian company Rondo.

Industrial processing requires a lot of heat to create things like cement and chemicals, and fossil fuels were the way we primarily made electricity, which is used to create the heat needed for industrial work. But now new ceramic “bricks” are being used as batteries to store heat generated by solar and wind renewables, opening up a new way to further decarbonise our economies.

The Renewable Energy Update is a regular segment on 2SER, where Dr Matt Wright checks in on the developments happening in the space of renewable energy. Listen to past episodes here.
