Renewable Energy Update: Iron Flow Batteries

With increasing amounts of renewable energy being installed into the Australian grid, it is important to think about different storage solutions to make the most of our energy.

Iron Flow Batteries are a goldilocks solution to energy storage. Containing two tanks of liquid, the batteries can be charged and discharged by pumping electrolytes back and forth between the tanks. They are cheaper and safer because they don’t have lithium or cobalt in their designs and have a potential much greater longevity.

Dr. Matt Wright spoke with 2SER’s Jack Gembitsky about the new opportunities flow batteries can bring the Australian economy.
