Restoration project of a million hectares of kelp forests

Kelp forests around the world are shrinking. These forests are underwater jungles of brown algae that live off a third of the world’s coastlines and are hubs of immense biodiversity.

Marine ecologists are working to regrow kelp seaweed and are calling on the public to participate in a global challenge to restore a million hectares of lost underwater forest by 2040.

The Wire’s Toni Pankaluic spoke with Dr. Aaron Eger, Marine Ecologist from the University of New South Wales and Program Director of the Kelp Forest Alliance on the importance of restoring underwater kelp forests.
