Rocky Road to “Artuby”: Perseverance Rover Collects It’s First Rock Samples

Earlier this month the curious and spirited Mars Rover Perseverance took the opportunity of a brief sojourn on a ridge-line between two craters to collect a small sample from a near-by rock. This seemingly innocuous action is in fact a huge milestone in Perseverance’s mission of exploration and discovery on the red planet.
What makes this so special? It’s just a piece of rock…right? Thursday Daily producer Cameron spoke to Australia’s Astronomer-at-Large, Dr. Fred Watson about Perseverance’s mission and why these rock samples are so special.
