Rohingya Refugee Camps Ban Communications

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees are facing a communications blackout, enforced by the Bangladesh government in new efforts to deal with tensions and protests in camps.

The government has been tightening restrictions on Rohingya Muslims progressively, restricting their freedom of movement and freedoms of access to the internet and telecommunications.

Many of these strategies have been labelled ‘inhumane’ by experts and not-for-profits, but persecution of Rohingya Muslims persists in Bangladesh.

Breakfast spoke with Jahnnabi Das, Research Assistant in Social Political Sciences at the University of Technology, about conditions in the camps and life for the Rohingya.
