Science fiction’s place in pop culture with Dean Haglund

Ever since the genesis of science fiction in literature, an ever-increasing amount of the general public have been critical of the genre, complaining stories featuring spaceships, jetpacks and time travel can not be taken seriously.

The X-Files is one such show but it has won dozens of awards, and due to enormous popular demand, had its first episode in 13 years screened in Australia last night.

Dean Haglund from the original series joined us in the studio to discuss how his show succeeded where so many others failed to gain popularity, and the importance of these shows on developing technology.
