Sleep Under the Stars for Homeless Youth
Sleeping under the stars conjures up a magical image, but the reality is far less enchanting. Over 43,000 Australians under the age of 25 are homeless and face the harsh reality of sleeping rough on a regular basis. Stepping Stone House is a not-for-profit charity that helps vulnerable young Australians get on their feet, providing a home, care and education. On 26 October 2018, they will hold their annual “Sleep Under the Stars” fundraising event at Hickson Reserve under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. The goal is to reach $400,000 which will accommodate and support 13 disadvantaged and homeless youth for a year. Tess spoke to Shirley Mower, from DHL who will join 327 other people to participate in the sleep out. Shirley has always been passionate about helping those less fortunate, fully aware of how easy it could be to be in their shoes. After watching the SBS show, Filthy Rich and Homeless, she quickly signed up to be part of the Sleep Under the Stars fundraising event to try and make more of a difference.
