Last month, The Wire covered the story of a Vietnamese family living in Bathurst, facing deportation after their sponsor abandoned them.

A sponsorship visa allows businesses to employ an overseas worker, if the employer is able to prove they couldn’t find an Australian citizen or permanent resident suitable for the specific job.

Sponsors have obligations to fulfill with sponsored workers and are required to report any changes.
