Does Spotify help artists to earn money?

Earlier this week it was revealed that the Australian Music Industry’s revenue had increased for the first time in three years. The increase was driven by the rise in music streaming services like Spotify, which now account for 62% of the overall market. But is the rise of streaming services helpful for the artists, especially those that are just starting off in the industry? A recent analysis showed that Spotify paid an average of $0.00521 per play to the artists. Dan Nevin, the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association joined presenter Jamie to talk more about the continued role of services like Spotify.
