Who Stands to Gain in Russian Withdrawal from Syria?
Russian President Vladimir Putin has caught the world by surprise this week with the announcement Russian troops would be withdrawing from Syria. Putin has been the strongest supporter of the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad against the wishes of many of the other nations involved. Sean Britten spoke to The Daily’s regular world security expert, Dr Julian Droogan from the Department of Policing, Intelligence and Counterterrorism at Macquarie University.
