Stop Asian Hate
People of Asian descent have been experiencing discrimination and racism since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic which is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China. In fact, the number of hate crimes has tripled according to a report produced by the Asian-Australian Alliance. Rallies in Australia have called on the Australian government to strengthen anti-racism laws and protections, and roll out compulsory anti-racism education in all public and private institutions. In similar vein, President Joe Biden in the US has been moved sign a bill aimed at fighting this discrimination against Asian-Americans by introducing a new DOJ expediting the handling of hate crimes and introducing mandatory training of local law enforcement officials. We were joined by Gail Mason, Professor of Criminology at the University of Sydney Law School to discuss.
