Sydney Harbour’s ‘Seahorse Hotel’ Conservation Success
Struggling endangered White’s seahorse populations are slowly recovering after checking into a ‘seahorse hotel’ in Sydney Harbour for a summer holiday. It’s certainly been a successful adventure with many males falling pregnant.
White’s seahorse is endemic to Australia and the captive-bred and release conservation program is a partnership between NSW Department of Primary Industries (Fisheriers), SEALIFE Aquarium and the University of Technology Sydney.
2SER Breakfast’s Alex James was joined by Senior Marine Scientist Dr David Harasti from the NSW Department of Primary Industries to understand how the species is recovering.
