Tabletochki: Sydney community supports Ukrainian children’s cancer charity

Sydney’s Ukrainian diaspora community continues to provide much needed support to charitable organisations like Tabletochki – dedicated to providing support and care for children suffering with cancer. As resources are funneled towards the war effort, charities like Tabletochki are forced to look for funding overseas.

Veronika Aleshina spoke with Olga Voronina, Sydneysider and a member of the Ukrainian diaspora, and representative of the Tabletochki Foundation Svitlana Pugach about how the needs of children with cancer have changed as a result of the war, and the positive impact of international donations on their lives.

On July 8th, 2024 the National Children’s Hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv, Ukraine, was hit by a Russian missile strike. The children’s oncology unit was amongst the most severely damaged. Tabletochki are working on the ground in Kyiv to arrange emergency medical evacuations, replenish medication for the children, as well as supplies and equipment, and to fund the rebuilding of the hospital.
