Tara June Winch’s The Yield

Today’s episode features Tara June Winch discussing her new novel The Yield.

Tara June Winch

Tara is a Wiradjuri author whose first novel Swallow the Air was critically acclaimed, receiving a slew of awards. Tara’s new novel is The Yield and she joins us from Melbourne where she is appearing as part of Melbourne Writer’s Festival.

The Yield

The Yield is a story of Australia told across three distinct narratives;

Albert Gondiwindi is writing a dictionary that he hopes will help revive his language and culture for his family when he dies.

August Gondiwindi is returning to Prosperous House to farewell her grandfather, just as the miners arrive to plunder the land for tin.

Through the letters of Reverend Ferdinand Greenleaf we are taken back to the founding of Prosperous House and see exposed the racism and discrimination at the heart of these relations a century earlier.
