Taxi driver attack raises safety concerns
Imagine a stranger enters your place of work, punches you in broad daylight while everyone watches on, and then leaves. The chances of that happening are very low, impossible even, but this was the reality for one taxi driver earlier this week when a man stopped peak-hour traffic in the CBD to repeatedly punch the taxi driver through his car window.
While these incidents aren’t commonplace, taxi drivers face many risks for working a public job. Nick Abrahim, deputy CEO of NSW Taxi Council, says “we need to make sure we have appropriate measures in place to mitigate these risks so that we can ensure that taxi drivers are given a safe and secure environment to work in.”
