Teaching and Learning on Darug Country

As NAIDOC Week 2017 continues, Nic was joined in the studio by Dr Neil Harrison from the Department of Educational Studies at Macquarie University to share his philosophy for teaching and learning Aboriginal history and culture on Darug Country (the Sydney Basin area).

Dr Harrison has developed an approach called “Learning from Country”, getting teachers and students out of the classroom and onto Country to work with local Darug people. “Learning from Country” activities like mural painting and bush medicine excursions are helping teachers and students to make real connections to local Indigenous culture.
