Tech Monopoly Regulation

The recent release of a Joint Statement on Merger Control Enforcement by competition regulators from Australia, the UK, and Germany has raised questions surrounding the regulation of tech monopolies.

Additionally, a recent Federal Court case between the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and Google, found that Google had misled some users about personal location data that Google had collected.

These have both led to questions surrounding the influence that tech monopolies have in Australia, and how to regulate them, this especially hard since many operate on an international basis.

Gabriella Monteiro asked Dr George Tian, Senior Lecturer at UTS Law School how tech monopolies are currently regulated in Australia.
