Telecommunications Regulation in Need of a Review
The internet is more and more becoming a vital tool and service for interaction within society. However, with the less than successful rollout of the NBN, and with complaints about phone and internet services increasing rapidly this past financial year, it appears that we badly need to improve consumer protections in this industry.
Advocacy groups, including the Financial & Consumer Rights Council (FCRC), CHOICE and the Consumers’ Federation of Australia have recently collaborated on a letter sent to Communications Minister Mitch Fifield stating that a review is necessary to our current Telecommunications Consumer Protections (TCP) code. The Daily was joined by Gerard Brody, the Chair of the Consumers’ Federation of Australia to discuss these issues.
