The Australian Common Reader Reveals Australian Reading Habits

A new publicly accessible database launched by ANU can now tell us about the historical reading habits of working class Australians

Now if that doesn’t grab your attention, what if I told you this data can challenge existing perceptions about men and women, and reveal the most popular reads of the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

ANU’s new project, called the ‘Australian Common Reader” is available online and tracks the borrowing habits of Australians between 1861 to 1928.

Breakfast spoke to Dr Julieanne Lamond who manages the project at ANU.
