The Burning Hell – Apocalypse, birds, etc
Canadian duo The Burning Hell dropped by 2SER studios at the end of their Australian tour (Jan 2025) just before they jumped back on a plane back to Prince Edward Island. Duo Mathias Kom and Ariel Sharratt shot the breeze with Cathy Kirkpatrick on A DIRECTION HOME, about falling asleep to the sound of your parents playing music in the kitchen, buried treasure, ocean outfall, creativity, destruction and ruin… and birds.
They performed a couple of exquisite songs, armed with acoustic guitar (lovingly borrowed from Leroy Lee) and bass clarinet.
Their music is described as moving “with heavy rhyme and a light step, incorporating a frequent fixation on apocalypse and ruin into work that celebrates participation in a mutually created, ever surprising, and even occasionally beautiful world.”
My favourite quote from the interview has to be “…it would be way easier to deal with zombies than what we’re dealing with now.”
