The Cosmic Web

Imagine all the galaxies in the universe are hanging like drops of dew on the threads of a spider web. Well, cosmological models suggest that a vast Cosmic Web joins giant clumps of matter throughout the universe… but no evidence has been observed… until now. A collaboration between the new CSIRO Radio Telescope Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder and German X-Ray telescope eROSITA has revealed a 50 million light-year long thread of this Cosmic Web. Astrophysicist Professor Ray Norris from CSIRO’s Australia Telescope National Facility joined us to discuss this discovery further.
