Ethics of Pet Euthanasia
Last week in America, a healthy Shih Tzu (SHI-ZU), was euthanized to fulfill its owner’s wish that her dog be laid down to rest with her. The move to put down a healthy dog has, naturally, attracted controversy, especially considering a local animal shelter had offered to care for the dog until it could be adopted.
To dig into the ethics of dog euthanasia, The Daily’s Julia Carr-Catzel joined by Dr. Jane Johnson, Teaching Fellow, from the Department of Philosophy and the center of agency, values and ethics at Macquarie University.
