The Ethics of Increased Transparency of Surgeon Performance
Health industry professionals are calling for the performance of individual surgeons to be made public, including their actions under adverse circumstances.
There is a demand for surgeon’s performances and actions to be publicly available in order to avoid careless health spending and to highlight potential hazardous and unnecessary treatments.
These potential changes in the near future could result in transformation of how patient and practitioner information is disclosed and in turn produce ethical and legal implications.
We had Dr. Katrina Hutchison, a Research Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Macquarie University, on the show to discuss the ethical considerations of these proposed changes and how they could affect patients, practitioners and the healthcare industry.
