The Monday Daily Gig Guide
For another installment of the Monday Daily’s local gig guide, Oscar and Jarred gave a re cap of some of the shows they caught on the weekend and discussed some of the must see gigs coming up this week:
Radio Free Alice 5/12
Coming up first this week Jarred on Friday we have Sydney band Radio Free Alice at one of my favourite venues, the chippo hotel just down the road from the 2SER studios in Chippendale, doors open at 6:30 for the early show and 9:30 for the late show.
Their debut single Square was one of my most listened to songs of 2020, so it’s needles to say that I’ll be their on Friday. Radio Free Alice are what I’d describe as being a post-punk outfit that takes heavy cues from an era and sound rarely explored in modern Australian music – melding influences from the ’80s that include Talking Heads, The Cure, The Smiths and The Go-Betweens.
Sunscreen + Ultracrush
Up next we have Sunscreen on Saturday at the Vic on the park at hotel, with being a Free entry, seated show, first in first served and as always the show will be live streamed outside to the outdoor projector so you can watch from the deck and carpark.
Sunscreen draw out real romance through driving guitar riffs and their front-woman Sarah Sykes’ commanding, dynamic voice. If you like Mazzy Starr or the Cocktaue twins then these are the guys for you.
