The need for justice reform to Raise The Age
NSW organisations continue to call for the NSW Government to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to at least 14 following the release of a concerning report from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.
Currently, children as young as 10 can be arrested, charged and put in prison in NSW. These children are ‘overwhelmingly’ from disadvantaged backgrounds and disproportionately from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Emily Mayo, Campaign Manager for Raise the Age NSW joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss why this needs to change.
