The ongoing fight for Toondah Harbour

A 67-hectare development plan in Moreton Bay’s Toondah Harbour area has been met with great opposition by locals and wildlife advocates.

The proposed development by Walker Corporation would involve dredging and drying out about 40 hectares of Ramsar-listed wetlands.

The development is reported to have major impacts on environmental biodiversity and the local community populations.

The Wire’s Chloe White spoke with Steven MacDonald, President of Redland 2030 and local of the area, about the impacts this development has on the community. Chloe also spoke with Andrew Hunter, conservation campaigner for Birdlife Australia, on the significance Toondah Harbour has for wildlife, in particular, the critically endangered migratory Eastern Curlew.
