The owl and the sniffer dog
If you thought puppies couldn’t get any cuter – think again. Scientists from ANU are using the help of sniffer puppies to help save an endangered owl.
Zorro – a young Border Collie cross Springer Spaniel – is reinvigorating the quest to locate Tasmanian Masked Owls on the island by sniffing out pellets of bones and fur regurgitated by the owl.
The pellets will help scientists understand how many owls are left on the island, what they are eating, and identify individual animals.
Dr Dejan Stojanovic from the ANU joined Jess to talk about this exciting – and cute! – research.
