Police Using Controversial New Encryption Powers

On December 6th new legislation was passed that requires Telecommunication  companies to hand over information on criminal suspects. The Australian Federal Police said that the negotiations are progressing and that tech companies will be expected to assist with information if they can. However the tech industry remains concerned because while a warrant is necessary to access private information one is not required to issue a notice under the law.  Industry experts find this law “rushed” and “naive” and questions the government decision. To spoke about this The Daily was joined by associate Professor Terry Goldsworthy from Bond University.
