The Problem with Australia’s Current Aged Care Facilities

In June 2018, a study found that smaller aged care homes that are designed to look more like a home, resulted in residents having a better quality of life and fewer hospitalisations, as opposed to those in larger facilities. However, care facilities in Australia are now growing in size to accommodate for the more than 200, 000 people living in these facilities and as a result are becoming less home-like. Ralph Hampson, a Senior Lecturer, Health and Ageing at the University of Melbourne joined Ruby on our Tuesday Drive program to discuss.
