Dr. Intifar Chowdhury, a Lecturer in Government at Flinders University, explores youth voting patterns and political engagement in her latest research. Her study examines how young Australians engage with politics, with a particular focus on generational and gender dynamics.

Using data from the Australian Election Study (AES) (1987 to 2022), Dr. Chowdhury’s latest work highlights significant shifts in youth political behaviour. Her findings suggest that Millennials and Gen Z are increasingly aligning with progressive politics, favouring left-leaning parties, however, a gender divide persists, with young women consistently more progressive than young men.

These insights shed light on the growing influence of young voters in shaping Australia’s political landscape.
