Thousands of Empty Homes Amid Sydney’s Housing Crisis
The hunt for a home in Sydney doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. If you’ve been a part of the housing scramble, you would be forgiven for thinking that Sydney was suffering from a lack of affordable, available housing. For the most part you would be right; however, new data out of UNSW suggests that there may be up to 90,000 homes standing empty. So with many people struggling to find somewhere to live how can there be so many empty homes? We asked one of the authors of that new study, Dr Laurence Troy, Research Associate at UNSW’s City Futures Research Centre.
