TikTok’s Security Threat

There have been calls to ban TikTok in Australia over concerns the Chinese Government is using it to gather user’s data. The app has amassed approximately 1.6 million Australian users over the past couple of years, with it growing to be one of the top social media apps in the world. Although it’s parent company, ByteDance, is based in Beijing, a representative of TikTok Australia has expressed that it’s servers are not based in the country nor would it share users data to any foreign government. However, the app has already been banned by a variety of major organisations, including the Australian Defence Force, as well as countries such as India due to concerns over data privacy and security.
