The reporting error by a major news network that misidentified the perpetrator of the Bondi Junction stabbings on Sunday has many questioning how news outlets fact-check their sources, especially on social media.

Some say the error came from media outlets using dubious social media sources, but consumers of news and content need to ensure that they are fact-checking for themselves in this era of ‘fake news’.
