Literary tropes and conventions are the bones of any good story. They help us take a narrative and fit it into our existing world, and in turn, shape our understanding of the world around of us.
As useful as tropes are to story crafters and story readers, sometimes they go bad. Sometimes we notice that their heavy usage in popular narratives perpetuate problematic ideas in society.
