Tuesday Bookclub: ‘Stone Sky Gold Mountain’
2SER’s Alex James and Andrew Pople return for another chapter of Book Club as they explore Mirandi Riwoe’s new historical fiction novel ‘Stone Sky Gold Mountain’.
Riwoe was awarded Seizure’s Viva la Novella award for ‘Fish Girl’ and has previously been shortlisted for the Stella Prize, which will be announced on April 14.
‘Stone Sky Gold Mountain’ follows siblings Ying and Lai Yue who leave their homeland China behind to restore their family’s fortune in the Australian goldfields in the 19th Century.
The pair encounter the freedoms and restrictions of their new lives and the reader is invited to consider how we treat outsiders.
In a timely piece of fiction, ‘Stone Sky Gold Mountain’ is a beautifully written exploration of racism, humanity, endurance and compassion.
Catch 2SER’s Andrew Pople on Final Draft every Wednesday evening at 6PM and each Saturday morning at 10AM.
