Um, Like… You Know… Verbal Crutches

There’s always, like, you know, some kind of words that we, um, basically use all the time when we’re actually talking. Sometimes, we literally can’t, I guess, pick it up consciously. I mean, why is that? So, uh, Dr. Dana Skopal, Sessional Lecturer in Linguistics at Macquarie University joined Mikayla on Drive to chat on the eleven filler words (see underlined italics) and/or phrases mentioned in these two sentences, and why our mouths seem to work faster than our brains?
