Is the UN Refugee Convention out of date?
There have been many debates about refugees in Australia, but is it time to look at whether the UN Refugee Convention is no longer up to date? That’s exactly what the Ethics Centre is looking to do with a debate held at the Sydney Town Hall this Tuesday night.
Six experts in fields as diverse as migration, trauma, refugee law, policy making and foreign affairs will gather to ask whether ok whether the convention, as it stands, it’s still applicable in world where as many as 60 million people have been displaced from their homes.
Nic was joined by Kym Middleton,the head of editorial and events at the Ethics Centre and the curator of Australian Intelligence Squared debates, to discuss the debate.
