Are unpaid internships legal?
It’s widely accepted that to get a job, you need work experience. For many students, this means completing as many internships as possible before graduation. A whopping 60% of people aged under 30 reportedly completed at least one unpaid internship in the last year… but can you really be ‘paid in experience’? Are unpaid internships actually lawful? Employment law expert Professor Andrew Stewart joined Nic to provide a legal perspective on unpaid internships and explain why the increasing necessity of doing unpaid work is excluding people who can’t afford to work for free.
