Victoria state government rejects second supervised injecting room

Today the state government of Victoria decided against a supervised injecting room in Melbourne.

Despite findings highlighting a clear need, the government announced that it will not proceed with the facility, opting instead for a $95 million dollar Statewide Action Plan.

Injecting rooms are safe space for drug addiction suffers to inject dependent drugs in a supervised health setting.

I speak with Professor Suzanne Nielsen, an opioid expert and Deputy Director of Monash Addiction Research Centre about the implications of this decision.
