Walk the Rabbit Proof Fence

Back in July, an extraordinary group of women retraced the footsteps of three young indigenous girls, Molly, Gracie and Daisy and walked 1400km along the Rabbit Proof Fence from Mogumber Mission, just outside Perth, to Jigalong in the Pilbara.

Molly, Gracie and Daisy were forcibly removed from their families in 1931. As soon as they arrived at Mogumber Mission, they knew they wanted to go home; they used the rabbit proof fence as a guide and undertook a 10 week walk home, surviving off the land and the kindness of strangers.

We talked to Sophie Gulliver and Kate Hodges about their experience in retracing the girls journey along the Rabbit Proof Fence and how the walk was a beautiful way to intellectualise and really embody the story of amazing feat of these heroic girls.
