Want to die but afraid to break the bank?
According to new research from finder.com.au, Perth is officially the most expensive Australian city to die in, with the average funeral costing about $7,800, and Sydney trails behind in second place. The study also found that the majority of Aussie adults don’t expect to foot their funeral bill before they die, leaving costs for relatives to pay. Because 1 in 5 Aussies don’t have enough money put aside for a $500 setback, an unexpected death can cause serious financial hardship.
Finder’s money expert Bessie Hassan spoke to Nic about the study’s findings and the importance of planning one’s funeral ahead of time.
(In case you were wondering, the cheapest state to die in is Canberra. Alternatively, you could just not die.)
