Wayne’s 4 x 2: Civil War, Mrs. Davis and MORE! (18 April 2024)

Do you want something to watch but aren’t sure where to start? 2SER’s entertainment wizard, Wayne Massingham is back and he’s got you covered with his reviews of the latest and greatest in film and music and television.

It’s Wayne’s 4 by 2! 4 Reviews, 2 minutes each. Here’s what he had for us this morning:

Film: Civil War
This gripping dystopian story is set in a civil war in America’s near future. It follows a group of journalists in a race against time and a disintegrating society to reach Washington, D.C. before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

It’s an intense and gripping watch, directed by Alex Garland with an great ensemble cast including Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Cailee Spaeny.

Civil War is in cinemas now. Check out the trailer here.

Television: Still Up
A gentle but quirky British comedy about night owls Lisa and Danny, who’ve only ever met once. Both insomniacs, they end up chatting regularly in the wee small hours and their relationship grows.

At 8 episodes, a nicely weird TV series to settle in to and enjoy.

Still Up is out now on Apple TV+. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Mrs. Davis
Another quirky one: in this new sci-fi comedy, a nun is forced to leave her quiet life at a convent when an all-powerful artificial intelligence known as Mrs. Davis enlists her to complete an epic quest.

It’s entertaining and also a bit of a thought provoker in this world of growing AI.

Mrs. Davis is out now on Foxtel Binge.  Take a look at the trailer here.

Album: Revelator, by Phosphorescent

Matthew Houck has been making music for over 20 years, and has just released his first album in 5 years. It’s a hard-to-describe but beautiful genre, with some ambient gothic folk, Americana country, a mystical twist, and it’s quite fun too.

Revelator is out now on Spotify and Bandcamp.
